That's the place where all regular guests know me, where the waitress knows what to bring me without asking, where they know my wife's phone number and call her everytime I drink too much, and where regular drinkers even have their own drinking glasses and placemats too. The staff are always willing to talk with you, and you can always find someone to drink with. My local pub is a place where life seems so easy. In my free time I like to go out to the local pub and talk with friends. Sometimes there are karaoke nights so me and my wife go to the pub, have a few cold beers and sing a song or two which are always accompanied by a laugh of our friends. I spend many many happy and sad hours there, that pub is just a part of me. New Year's Eve, birthdays, bachelor parties, and sad events like wailing after a lost friend are all parts of the everyday scenario. The things that hold me there are the people in the pub, I can ask them for an advice I need, I can tell them about quarrels with my wife, about problems at work. |

In the years I lived in England, there was nothing more pleasant on a summer's evening than to head out to the Fort Saint George in Cambridge. Perhaps the next best would be pubs in the Peak District (where I like to holiday), but you can't beat your local pubs (when I lived there).
The interior is all traditional pub: slightly mismatched furniture, uneven levels, cozy booths and a quietly cheerful atmosphere. But the pub's real advantage is when the weather gets warm. Then, the open layout of picnic tables near the river is a prime place to while away some free time. After work on a Thursday or Friday, someone would inevitably ask, "How about a pint?" Before we knew it, we were settled in at a riverside table for the evening, cheerfully sipping our pints of ale and perhaps munching on a bag of potato chips or an order of fried calamari. The sun sets late during the English summers, and we would take full advantage of the late nights, debating local politics or simply enjoying the congenial atmosphere, surrounded by friends. There's nothing I'll miss more now that I've moved away! |
